Brian Allan Hobbs is a composer, writer, and music director. He is a graduate of the NYU/Tisch School of the Arts Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program and an alumni of both the BMI Musical Theatre Workshop in New York and the Lehman Engle Musical Theatre Workshop in Los Angeles, where he studied with artists such as William Finn, Stephen Schwartz, Michael John LaChiusa, Adam Guettel, Tony Kushner, Jeanine Tesori, and Hal Prince.
His music directing, performing, and production credits include Broadway: Finian’s Rainbow, Rock of Ages, Disney’s Tarzan; Off-Broadway: Crossing Brooklyn, Marcy in the Galaxy, Queen of the Mist, Rock of Ages; Regional: Altar Boyz (Mountain Playhouse, PA), It’s Only Life (Rubicon, CA), Little Fish (Blank Theatre, CA); Local: Avenue Q, Chicago (Children’s Musical Theatre of San Jose), In the Heights, Man of La Mancha, Passion (Custom Made Theatre Company), The Cable Car Nymphomaniac (FOGG), End of the Rainbow (OMG, TBA winner, SFBATCC Best of Bay Area Theatre, 2017), Rocky Horror, Evil Dead the Musical (Roshi, @San Jose Stage), The Toxic Avenger (SJStage, TBA winner), Aida, West Side Story (Stage 1), Little Women, Pippin (Sunnyvale Players), 1776 (Tabard Theatre), Spamalot (Tri-Valley Rep), Long Story Short, Wheelhouse, Pride & Prejudice (TheatreWorks), Les Misérables, Catch Me If You Can (Woodminster). Solo artists include Kris Allen, Christine Andreas, Sarah Uriarte Berry, Sutton Foster, Frank Sinatra, Jr., and Lisa Vroman.
His writing includes The Many Women of Troy (Musical Café, Hollywood Fringe, Capital Fringe), Hamlet Sings (Prospect Theatre), As You Like It (Hilberry Repertory), Twelfth Night (UCLA), and The Tempest (Vital Theatre Company). Brian’s songs and orchestrations have been performed both locally and at many benefit concerts and shows in New York and London.
